In addition to our extensive co-curricular clubs and societies, girls also have the option of taking part in further music tuition and dramatic performance lessons (LAMDA).
Musical Instrument and/or Singing Tuition
We are delighted to offer pupils the opportunity to learn a musical instrument or take singing lessons. Lessons are delivered by a team of visiting teachers. Pupils follow a structured course in technique and repertoire developing their confidence as performers. Learning an instrument or taking singing lessons brings with it a host of additional benefits, including the development of self-esteem, communication skills, co-ordination skills and self-discipline. Participation in co-curricular music encourages the development of social awareness, team building and leadership skills as well as offering opportunities for visiting new places and meeting new people. If you would like your daughter to take instrumental/singing lessons at school, please complete the form by Tuesday 14 September via the link below. The following options are available:
LAMDA
LAMDA classes are available to girls in Years 3-6 and taught by Ms Lily Cooper. Girls come out of class on a rotating timetable (rotating so that nobody misses the same class twice) and they usually do one performance to parents each year as well.
The LAMDA syllabus not only develops specific creative and performance skills; it also develops life skills such as confidence, team work, motivation, resilience and responsibility. LAMDA tuition follows the syllabus of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Pupils work on solo and duologue acting, group acting and verse and prose/ public speaking delivery. They take a graded exam once a year and perform to parents at the end of each summer term.
Lily Cooper trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and as well as delivering LAMDA tuition she is the Education officer for Play On Words Theatre, meaning that she offer girls the chance to work with an active industry professional with 10+ years’ experience creating theatre for and with children and young people.
LAMDA students work in small groups for 40 minutes a week to prepare for exams in LAMDA Acting , devising and the Verse and Prose Syllabus.
The cost of a term’s tuition is £62.50 per half term and an exam fee of £48 is payable in addition.
If this is something you are interested in, and you would like to book your daughter a trial place, please email her directly at lilyct@playonwordstheatre.com
She will confirm with you before taking your daughter for her session. Trials will be in groups of up to 6, with girls from the same year groups working together.
