At Streatham & Clapham Prep School, we recognise the importance of learning languages from an early age, helping pupils develop confidence, fluency, and a deeper understanding of different cultures. Modern Foreign Languages (MfL) play a key role in our curriculum, with pupils beginning their French journey through engaging and interactive lessons that build essential speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
This week, Year 4 had the opportunity to bring their learning to life with a special French breakfast. Pupils practised their conversational skills by ordering in French, saying, “Je voudrais un croissant, s’il vous plaît.” This immersive experience reinforced their language abilities while giving them a real taste of French culture.
Our approach to language learning extends beyond the classroom, incorporating storytelling, role-playing, and cultural experiences that make learning meaningful and enjoyable. By fostering a love for languages, we prepare our pupils to thrive in an increasingly globalised world.
