At our school, pastoral care is integral to our academic programme, not an afterthought. We believe that girls excel when they are happy and secure in their social and working relationships, which is why we emphasise a ‘family’ ethos. This nurturing environment, where each girl is valued and supported, drives their success. Our Deputy Head (Pastoral) oversees all pastoral matters, ensuring personalised care for every student. Collaboration with parents is key, as we share the responsibility for each girl’s wellbeing, fostering relationships, respect, and responsibility alongside academic achievement.

Each Head of Year is responsible for guiding a portion of the school’s girls from Year 7 to Sixth Form. We believe that our vibrant learning environment comes from complementing the three traditional academic ‘Rs’ (reading, writing and arithmetic) with the three ‘Rs’ of pastoral care: relationships, respect and responsibility. We believe wellbeing is a shared responsibility, and by focusing on relationships, respect, and responsibility, we empower students to grow with encouragement and self-discipline, preparing them for future success.

Like many schools, we provide a confidential counselling service for our students, with a counsellor available on-site at both the Prep and Senior schools. Your daughter can reach out directly to the counsellor if something is troubling her and she wishes to speak in confidence. Alternatively, her Head of Year may recommend an initial conversation. The counsellor typically offers up to six individual sessions, with each session lasting about 30 minutes. Counselling is confidential, except when it is necessary to inform the safeguarding team or authorities for the student’s safety, such as in cases of abuse, neglect, or endangerment. If you would like your daughter to receive counselling support, please discuss this with the Deputy Head of Prep (Pastoral), Head of Year or Form Tutor.

Our School Counsellor

Like many schools, we provide a confidential counselling service for our pupils, with a counsellor available on-site at both the Prep and Senior schools. Our school also subscribes to a digital platform called Tooled Up Education who provide holistic support to everyone in our school community, across all areas of family life. This gives our families and staff privileged access to a digital library, packed full of evidence-based tips, activities, educational webinars and enlightening podcasts, on all matters relating to mental health, aspiration, learning, digital life and family life. As a parent of a pupil at Streatham & Clapham High School you will have access to a personal account giving you access to all the resources as well as the opportunity to ask questions about any aspect of your child’s development and get evidence-based answers.
