The transition has been well thought through, managed with care and wellbeing in mind.

Senior School Parent, April 2026

Pastoral care at SCHS is an integral part of our educational provision, not an add-on. We believe girls excel when they feel happy, confident and secure in their relationships, which is why we foster a strong “family” ethos across the school. Each pupil is valued and supported, and this nurturing environment enables them to flourish in every aspect of school life.

Our Assistant Head (Pastoral) oversees all pastoral matters, ensuring personalised care for each pupil. Collaboration with parents is essential, and we work closely together to support wellbeing, promote healthy relationships, and instil our values of kindness, respect, integrity and compassion.

Each Head of Year guides their cohort from Year 7 through to Year 11, with specialist tutors in the Sixth Form, ensuring continuity of care and a deep understanding of each pupil’s needs.

Tutors are responsible for the day-to-day pastoral care of pupils in their form, understanding each pupil as an individual, including their character, strengths, preferences, and circumstances, such as medical needs, family situations and learning support profiles. Tutors encourage and monitor academic progress alongside wellbeing, promoting good attendance, punctuality, conduct and appearance. They serve as the primary point of contact with parents.

Our School Counsellor

Like many schools, we provide a confidential counselling service for our pupils, with a counsellor available on-site at both the Prep and Senior schools. Our school also subscribes to a digital platform called Tooled Up Education who provide holistic support to everyone in our school community, across all areas of family life. This gives our families and staff privileged access to a digital library, packed full of evidence-based tips, activities, educational webinars and enlightening podcasts, on all matters relating to mental health, aspiration, learning, digital life and family life. As a parent of a pupil at Streatham & Clapham High School you will have access to a personal account giving you access to all the resources as well as the opportunity to ask questions about any aspect of your child’s development and get evidence-based answers.
