Sixth Form Admissions

The Sixth Form at Streatham & Clapham High School is one of the most distinguished, innovative and exciting educational options available to bright young women in London. The SCHS Sixth Form occupies an RIBA award-winning facility with breath-taking views adjacent to Tooting Bec Common in the heart of one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

Led by the Director of Sixth Form, the SCHS Sixth Form programme has been painstakingly crafted to meet the needs of diverse young women and to support their ambitions to live rich lives in the 21st century. The sole point of entry into the Sixth Form is Year 12 (16+).

We warmly welcome applications to the Sixth Form from external candidates. The application process includes a formal interview with the Director of Sixth Form. Each application is subject to a non-refundable registration fee (refer to School Fees for further details). Entry requirements are at least 7 GCSEs graded 6 to 9, including Maths and English, with a minimum of grade 7 in the subjects intended for A-Level study. Applicants will take a critical thinking general paper, and those applying for an academic scholarship must also sit a subject-specific exam in a subject of their choice, usually held at SCHS.

Please note, external Sixth Form applicants are not automatically considered for Academic Scholarships. To apply, they must indicate their interest on the registration form and complete a separate scholarship form, which includes a personal statement, as required for all scholarship applications.

Current SCHS Year 11 pupils do not need to submit an application form, pay a registration fee, or a deposit. However, those wishing to be considered for an Academic Scholarship must complete a separate scholarship form and sit both a general paper and a subject-specific exam.

Places are awarded on one or more of the following criteria: 

• A minimum of 7 GCSEs awarded at grade 6 or above. These should include English and Mathematics. In subjects they intend to study at A-Level, applicants should achieve a minimum of a grade 7 in that subject. 

• In the case of a subject being a ‘new’ subject (for example, Psychology and Economics), alternative grade requirements may be set in other subjects. Candidates for Economics should have competent mathematical skills (grade 6 at GCSE). 

• A satisfactory reference from the applicant’s current school, indicating a good academic and personal record. 

• Satisfactory interviews with the Director of Sixth Form at which precise course options are discussed. 

• Successful performance in our entrance examination, which consists of a critical thinking general paper. If applying for an Academic Scholarship, students will also sit one subject-specific paper in a subject of their choice.

The bursary application portal opens in mid-September, and we will notify those who have requested more information through the Bursar’s Office at the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST). 

Please note that you can only apply for a bursary after completing the full registration form for Streatham & Clapham High School. Bursaries cannot be awarded for chance place vacancies in the Senior school. For further details about the bursary scheme, please click the link below.

It’s important to note that Sixth Form applicants, whether internal or external, are not automatically considered for Academic Scholarships; you need to express your interest by indicating this on your registration form. Furthermore, candidates must fill out a distinct scholarship form, which includes a personal statement, as required for all scholarship applications.
