“Impressed they start futures and careers lessons in Year 7. It’s been nice to see her researching and thinking about careers already.”

Senior School Parent, April 2026

Our Futures & Aspirations programme is designed to prepare pupils for life beyond Streatham & Clapham High School with confidence, clarity and a strong sense of purpose. Recognised in the national Good Schools Guide’s report for offering careers advice that is both balanced and relevant, our framework provides comprehensive guidance and real life in-person career experience tailored to each pupil’s ambitions. We aim to ensure that every girl feels empowered to explore opportunities, develop her strengths and make informed decision about her post-18 pathway.

Lecture Series

Our popular lecture series brings professionals from a wide range of industries, including law, finance, medicine, media, technology and the creative arts, into school. Recent speakers have included barrister Jessikah Inaba; author and broadcaster Jeffrey Boakye; Liz Claydon, Partner at KPMG; Rosie Vogel, Booking Director at Vogue and Dr Sarah Krishnanadan, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at City St George’s. These sessions give pupils valuable insight into different career journeys, emerging sectors and the skills required to succeed in an ever-changing world. Speakers share their experiences, offering inspiration, practical advice and mentoring that helps pupils broaden their horizons.

Personalised Guidance

All girls receive timetabled career lessons and senior pupils enjoy individualised support through regular one-to-one meetings with our Head of Futures & Aspirations. Pupils also benefit from full access to Unifrog, a leading online platform that allows them to research universities, courses, apprenticeships and careers in a structured, accessible way. This personalised approach ensures that every pupil feels supported in making decisions that reflect her talents, interests and long-term aspirations.

Work Experience

SCHS pupils begin exploring the world of work from an early stage. In Year 8, Take Your Daughter to Work Day provides meaningful insight into professional life. As pupils progress through the Senior School and into the Sixth Form, we encourage them to undertake in-person placements that align with their interests. In Year 10, pupils participate in a dedicated work experience week, enabling them to gain valuable insight into industries connected to their preferred university degree or future career path. Pupils continue with diverse work experience opportunities throughout Sixth Form, with strong alumnae partnerships.

Higher Education Week

In Sixth Form, our focused Higher Education Week gives pupils time to explore a full range of post-18 options. The programme includes sessions on personal statement writing, student finance, interview preparation and cover letter writing. Pupils also take part in university visits, careers workshops, and talks on gap years, apprenticeships and degree. This dedicated time offers crucial space for reflection, research, advice and planning, ensuring pupils are well-equipped to take their next steps with confidence.
