The incoming Year 7 pupils take part in a dedicated programme designed to introduce them to Streatham & Clapham High School. This begins with Carpe Diem, a special welcome event in February for offer holders, with themed activities, giving the opportunity for prospective students to meet peers, explore the school, and get excited about joining the school community. Transition continues with the Induction morning in July, when pupils meet their Head of House and Head of Year, participate in form activities, and explore the school. At the same time, parents learn about a typical school day and meet key members of staff.
In September, new pupils meet their “Streatham Sisters” – the Year 8 pupils who have recently gone through the transition process and are ready to mentor and support Year 7 pupils. Throughout the year, these “sisters” meet during form time and various activities. One of the first team-building events take place in the second week of September enabling Year 7 pupils to take part in a full day of activities designed to help them bond and work together. This is followed by a family social event, including an after-school BBQ. Pupils also enjoy a team building afternoon later in the Spring Term.
As the year progresses, there are numerous opportunities for pupils to develop the skills needed for a successful transition through our comprehensive curriculum. This includes a robust programme of assemblies, various form-time activities, an extensive PSHCE programme, diverse clubs, including friendship and mentoring clubs, and strong pastoral support.
