The Girls’ Day School Trust

The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), which has pioneered the education of girls and young women since its foundation in 1872, is the leading network of independent girls’ schools in the UK, with approximately 4,000 staff and nearly 20,000 pupils in its 23 schools and two academies throughout England and Wales. About 8% of all the girls in independent education in the UK are at GDST schools. GDST schools are non-denominational, and pupils have always been admitted irrespective of background or beliefs. All but two of the schools educate girls from the age of 3 or 4 to 18.

Streatham & Clapham High School is a member school of the Girls’ Day School Trust, and as such the Trust holds legal responsibility for its operations. The Chief Executive Officer of the Trust, Ms Cheryl Giovannoni, is based at GDST Head Office, 10 Bressenden Place, London SW1E 5DH and may be contacted via telephone on 020 7393 6666 or email via info@wes.gdst.net. The Chair of the GDST council is Ms Vicky Tuck, who may be contacted via the address, telephone number and email detailed above for the GDST.

How do partnerships with key associations enhance education at SCHS?

At Streatham & Clapham High School, our partnerships with key associations enable us to deliver a truly enriched educational experience.

Through the Independent Schools Council (ISC), we connect with over 1,400 independent schools, broadening our insights and maintaining high standards. As members of the HMC, we join other world-leading independent schools focused on academic rigour and leadership. Our affiliation with the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA) supports our commitment to nurturing female leadership and learning in independent girls’ education, and our membership with the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) provides tailored resources for developing preparatory school excellence.

Locally, our collaboration with Southwark Schools’ Learning Partnership (SSLP) creates unique educational opportunities, shared resources and inter-school projects with state and independent schools, fostering unity and diverse learning. Additionally, Tooled Up Education provides evidence-based resources to enhance student and family well-being, supporting both learning and family life.

These associations not only elevate our teaching practices but also reinforce our community-focused values, preparing our students with broad perspectives and skills for future success.
