We are proud to announce that Streatham & Clapham High School has won the Education Choices Award for Developing Student Voice, recognising our strong commitment to empowering pupils to shape their school experience and community.
At SCHS, student voice is not a token gesture, it is embedded in the daily rhythm of school life. Our four-strand school council model enables over 100 girls from Years 7–11 to serve as representatives across Academic, Wellbeing, Community and Co-Curricular categories. Sixth Form leadership teams play a key role in mentoring and guiding these groups.
Each half term, tutor group reps gather feedback, raise concerns and present ideas to the Senior Leadership Team. Outcomes are discussed and shared back in student-led assemblies. Crucially, even if suggestions can’t be actioned, students are told why, ensuring their voices are respected and not ignored.
This has led to meaningful changes, such as a new behaviour rewards system that celebrates kindness, effort and helpfulness; a broadened Kinza co-curricular programme including skateboarding, climbing and self-defence; and music-led outreach with local primary schools.
Regular wellbeing surveys and individual check-ins ensure every student knows they have someone to turn to, reinforcing our deep commitment to student wellbeing.
Deputy Head (Pastoral) & DSL, Amy Smith said: “We are incredibly proud of this award. It reflects our ethos: that every student should feel seen, valued and able to make a difference.”
This award is a celebration of our pupils’ ideas, initiative, and leadership, and of a school culture where student voice truly shapes the future.
