Our Vision, Ethos and Purpose

Our vision is to develop excellence in every pupil, to inspire agile and creative thinkers who outperform their expectations. We are an aspirational, vibrant and supportive community where friendships flourish and kindness matters. We want every pupil to become the best version of herself in her learning, relationships, and sense of community and connection, to be great future leaders, team-players, innovators, trailblazers, disruptors and creators.

Our family ethos is grounded in a culture of excellent pastoral care: we know and value every girl as an individual, so that they feel they belong, and their voice is heard. We take time to listen, and are supportive, clear and fair in all that we do. Our partnership with parents is crucial to our holistic approach so that together we enable every pupil to thrive.

We are a school of kindness, respect, integrity and compassion, and in the spirit of our motto “Towards wisdom unafraid”, our pupils feel energised and excited about their learning. Inspired by our talented and committed staff, the girls work hard and aim high, and are further enriched by our wide-ranging and sometimes quirky co-curricular programme.

We are a family not a factory, and we proudly celebrate our community’s diversity as a local school, drawing strength from our rich cultural mix, and working together with local schools to broaden our pupils’ experiences. Our girls take pride in volunteering within their community; fundraising for national and international causes; developing their empathy and respect as local and global citizens, and caring for the sustainability of the environment too.

We are experts in, and champions of, all girls’ education, drawing strength from our membership of the GDST family of schools. As a through school from 3 to 18, our pupils make friendships for life and stay in touch through our far-reaching alumna network.

Our pupils learn to face the future with curiosity and optimism and to achieve ambitiously, beyond what they thought possible. They mature into confident, resilient and accomplished young people, positively engaged in the world around them, and richly equipped in character and mind for the challenges of their future lives.

Our Ecosystem

The ecosystem of SCHS is rooted in our values: kindness, respect, integrity and compassion. We commit to acting with good character, aiming for excellence, celebrating success, facing failure, and embracing all that it is to be human.

Our learning inspires curiosity and questioning with a wealth of academic and co-curricular learning opportunities, so that girls learn without limits through high expectations, risk-taking, and uncertainty, with ambitious outcomes, supported by excellent teaching and outstanding pastoral care.

Our relationships reach across the school’s community to develop collaboration, teamwork, and leadership, with an understanding of the importance of both emotional and intellectual intelligence and connections.

Our richly diverse community takes pride in our family ethos and sense of belonging, working in partnership with parents and the local community, as well as international partnerships, to form global citizens for a sustainable future that respects our environment and all who share it.

Our communications connect all members of the community to enable excellent mutual understanding, ensure clear organisation and intent, and celebrate all that we are and do as a school.
