At Streatham & Clapham High School, we believe that an all-girls environment provides the ideal space for students to excel, particularly in subjects where girls have historically been underrepresented, like STEM. Recently, our GCSE Biology students had an exciting opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, dissecting a lamb’s heart and a cow’s eye as part of their practical work. These experiences are invaluable for deepening their understanding of complex biological systems and bringing textbook knowledge to life.

In our girls-only setting, students can fully immerse themselves in activities without the typical classroom dynamics where boys often dominate discussions and practical tasks. This creates an atmosphere where our students feel free to ask questions, confidently explore new concepts, and take the lead in experiments. Without the social pressures and distractions that sometimes arise in co-ed environments, our girls are empowered to approach STEM subjects with enthusiasm and self-assurance.
At SCHS, our mission is to create an environment where girls feel comfortable excelling in all subjects, especially STEM. Through these enriching experiences, we are laying a strong foundation for their success in senior school and beyond.
