Year 7 students from Streatham & Clapham High School enjoyed an exciting Mandarin cultural immersion experience at Dulwich College. During the day they saw an impressive Chinese lion dance and participated in various traditional Chinese games and activities. A big thank you to Dulwich College for such a fun and insightful day!

At Streatham & Clapham High School we place a strong emphasis on the power of all-girls education because research shows that girls learn best when they feel confident, empowered and free from gender stereotypes, enabling them to participate fully, take risks, and pursue any subject or leadership opportunity without limits. The Girls’ Day School Trust’s own research highlights how girls educated in environments designed specifically for their needs develop greater confidence, resilience and belief in themselves relative to peers in mixed settings, especially in the early and middle years of school. This confidence builds a strong foundation that carries into co-educational experiences.

That’s why we partner with local boys’ schools for enrichment days like this one—not to move away from our focus on girls’ education, but to give our students the opportunity to confidently engage, collaborate and thrive in mixed environments. The grounding they gain from an all-girls setting gives them a secure sense of self that helps them interact authentically with others, while also broadening their social experiences and cultural understanding. Together, these experiences help prepare our girls to succeed in a diverse world where they can contribute with confidence in any setting.

The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) is committed to improving the learning experiences and outcomes for all girls in education. Read more about their findings on girls’ education in their report ‘Designing the Future of Girls’ Education’.
