Streatham & Clapham Prep School is proud to announce that it has been commended in the prestigious Independent School of the Year Awards for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Provision, recognising the school’s exceptional commitment to ensuring every pupil is known, valued and supported to thrive. The commendation celebrates the school’s inclusive approach, where SEND provision is embedded throughout every aspect of school life rather than treated as an additional service. Central to this ethos is the belief that success should be measured by each child’s individual development and progress. Through bespoke learning plans, targeted interventions and adaptive teaching, pupils are supported to achieve their full potential while remaining fully engaged in the life of the school.
A key strength highlighted in the award entry was the close integration of academic and pastoral care. Staff receive specialist training to identify and respond to pupils’ needs, ensuring support is proactive and personalised. Every girl is encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self as a learner. The impact of this approach can be seen in the transformative outcomes achieved by pupils. One pupil participating in the school’s Catch Up Numeracy programme improved her standardised score from 75 to 108, while increasing her number age by almost three years in just seven months. Alongside this remarkable academic progress, the pupil’s confidence in numeracy also grew significantly, demonstrating the powerful impact of timely and targeted intervention.
Over the past year, the school has continued to respond to increasingly complex pupil needs, particularly where neurodiversity intersects with mental health and wellbeing. Additional support has been introduced through expanded ELSA provision, access to counselling services and support from Mabel the therapy dog. The SENDCo works closely with families and external professionals, including CAMHS, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and the local authority, ensuring every child receives the right support at the right time.
The success of the school’s SEND provision is reflected not only in strong pupil outcomes but also in the confidence of its parent community. In a recent survey, 100% of parents of pupils with SEND agreed that the school supports their child well. Girls are empowered to embrace challenge, develop independence and build the skills they need for future success, both within the classroom and beyond. This commendation is a testament to the dedication of staff, pupils and families, and reinforces Streatham & Clapham Prep School’s commitment to providing an ambitious, nurturing and truly inclusive education for every child.

“100% of parents of pupils with SEND agreed that the school supports their child well.”
