At Streatham & Clapham High School, we are committed to the holistic development of every pupil and proudly celebrate our cultural diversity. We know that education extends far beyond academic study, which is why our co-curricular programme is designed to nurture curiosity, confidence and character. With opportunities spanning intellectual challenge, creative expression, global awareness and personal wellbeing, each girl is encouraged to explore her interests and discover new passions.

Clubs, Societies and Enrichment

Our extensive range of clubs offers something for everyone. Pupils with academic interests can explore societies such as Classics, History, Science, Geography and Mathematics, or join subject-focused groups including Linguistics, Model United Nations, Digital Leaders and Robotics. For those drawn to the arts, there are thriving opportunities in creative writing, drama, podcasting, crochet, sewing, art clinics, and a rich musical offering including choir, swing band, samba, guitar ensemble, Folk Music Friday and ukulele. For those interested in sport there are opportunities to participate whether at a competitive level or for fitness, teamwork and enjoyment. School Sports Magazine ranked us within the top 100 independent schools for sport.

Leadership, innovation and community spirit are also central to our co-curricular life. Pupils may participate in Build Your Own Business, Eco Society, Mosaic (our diversity and inclusion group), International Friendships and a wide selection of wellbeing-focused activities. Alongside these, academic clinics allow girls to consolidate their learning or stretch themselves further as they progress through the school.

Trips & Residential Visits

Trips and residential visits play a vital role in broadening pupils’ horizons and strengthening friendships. Pupils take part in theatre visits, field trips, cultural outings, national competitions and residential stays in the UK, as well as international opportunities that deepen their understanding of the wider world. Recent destinations have included China, Greece, France, Spain, South Africa, Iceland and Singapore, in addition to European ski trips. These experiences foster independence, resilience and global awareness; qualities that stay with pupils throughout their lives.

Kinza Programme

Our fortnightly Kinza sessions allow pupils to think fearlessly and explore enrichment opportunities across year groups beyond the curriculum. Designed and delivered by SCHS teachers, these sessions inspire curiosity and creativity by giving pupils a supportive space to experiment and learn. Recent Kinza choices include robotics, ice skating, bouldering, wig making and cheerleading.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a celebrated part of school life, developing resilience, teamwork and independence through expeditions, volunteering and skills development. The scheme helps pupils grow in confidence while cultivating a sense of responsibility and adventure.

House System

The House system is at the heart of our community. Every pupil joins one of five Houses: Carter, Fawcett, Franklin, Knights or Paston Brown, each named after an influential woman who made a significant contribution to society. The Houses bring pupils together across year groups for competitions, charity events, music and sport, while fostering friendships, school spirit and leadership. Led by a Head of House and supported by pupil House Captains, the system ensures each girl feels known, valued and supported from her very first day.

Drama, Art and Music

Our Drama programme brings stories to life through exciting performance opportunities, from theatrical productions to scriptwriting and improvisation workshops. Pupils can participate in annual plays, showcase their talents in school-wide productions, and explore drama both on stage and behind the scenes, with roles in set design, costume and lighting. From intense devised pieces to whole school musicals with a cast of a hundred, there is something for everyone.

Art at SCHS is all about creative expression and experimentation. Pupils work with a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, and digital art, supported by expert guidance to build their skills and confidence. Regular exhibitions provide opportunities to display their work and share their achievements with the wider school community, and students’ work adorns the walls throughout the school.

Music at SCHS is a joyful and collaborative experience. Pupils can join ensembles, orchestras, choirs, and bands, with numerous opportunities to perform in concerts, recitals and school events from jazz concerts to opera to orchestral showcases. Our music programme encourages individual growth through instrumental lessons and theory classes while fostering a strong sense of community and shared passion.

Instrument Lessons

At Streatham & Clapham High School, music is woven into the fabric of school life. Learning an instrument is not just about technical skill; it nurtures creativity, confidence and resilience, while enhancing academic learning and wellbeing. Our students benefit from expert tuition, a wide choice of instruments, and the chance to perform in ensembles, choirs and concerts. These experiences reflect our wider ethos: that education should inspire curiosity, collaboration and joy. Through music, every pupil finds her own voice and contributes to something greater than herself.

Sport

All girls participate in sport, whether at a competitive level or for fitness, teamwork and enjoyment. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures every pupil has the opportunity to represent the school in competitive fixtures, regardless of experience or ability. With Teams A to F across key sports, all girls, from seasoned athletes to enthusiastic beginners, can participate, develop their skills, and take pride in playing for their school. Schools Sport Magazine ranked us within the top 100 independent sports schools in the UK (which places SCHS in the top 10% of all British schools). Major competitive sports include: Athletics, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball and Rowing.

Kinza

‘Kinza’ is an Arabic term meaning ‘hidden treasure’. Streatham & Clapham High School’s ‘Kinza’ programme is one of the most exciting features of our curriculum and exemplifies our commitment to ‘fearless learning’.

Through the fortnightly Kinza sessions, each pupil has the opportunity to explore various types of subject enrichment freely, with no examination pressure at the end, all the while enjoying the process of learning and developing new skills. Each Kinza course reflects the personal interests and expertise of the teaching staff.

Our pupils rotate around a carousel of courses, giving them the opportunity to be bold and try out a variety of new activities, which are designed to provide academic stretch and challenge and an opportunity to collaborate with pupils, not in their classes or house. The Kinza programme is a salient feature of an SCHS education.

We aim enable every girl to achieve beyond the bounds of expectation on a daily basis, across the spectrum of endeavour. That’s why all of our enrichment options aim to inspire, nourish and develop each girl’s skills, experiences and imagination.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme develops independence, resilience and teamwork through expeditions and voluntary service. These experiences not only foster a sense of adventure but also prepare them for their roles as engaged and thoughtful global citizens.
