SCHS celebrates International School Award win

Streatham & Clapham High School has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom. This year marks the 25^th anniversary of the award, which celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in global education. Bringing an international dimension into the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life and work in today’s world.

The 2025 award ceremony took place in Westminster on Monday 20 January and was attended by Members of Parliament and representatives from schools around the UK, including our Head, Ms Cathy Ellott, and Assistant Head (Co-Curricular and Community), Mrs Tiffany Philipsen-Allen.

Our international work includes:

• An ongoing cultural and social exchange with College St. Damien in TDR of Congo

• School exchanges with The Affiliated High School of Peking University, China

• Period poverty outreach with Masiphumelele High School in South Africa

• Online academic symposiums and cultural exchanges with Elpro International School, India

• Online English classes for children affected by the conflict in the Middle East

• Water aid outreach for Beseke Primary School, Ethiopia

• Our annual Culture Days, where pupils celebrate the rich range of culture and heritage in the student and staff body

The International School Award encourages and supports schools to develop: an international ethos embedded throughout the school, a whole school approach to international work, collaborative curriculum-based work with several partner schools, year-round international activity and involvement of the wider community. The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.
