On Saturday 3 October, Streatham & Clapham Prep School invites families from across Streatham, Clapham and beyond to a free morning of film-making. It is also a first-hand look at how we teach.

This autumn we are opening the doors of our Prep School on Wavertree Road for our very first Fringe Film Festival. It is a free community event for girls and boys aged 3 to 11 and the grown-ups who come with them, and it runs from 9am to 1pm. It is our contribution to the Streatham Free Film Festival, which has brought free film to audiences across our community for many years. As we begin our 140th year, it feels right to spend a Saturday morning with our neighbours.

Children will build sets, write scripts, compose soundtracks, bring characters to life on stage and animate models frame by frame. They will work alongside our specialist teachers and our own pupils. Every activity is designed for adults and children to do together, so this is a morning to share rather than a drop-off.

What the morning involves

Children aged 7 to 11 take part in three workshops across the morning. These are drawn from stop-motion animation, bringing characters to life, composing a music score, script writing, and prop and set design. Our youngest visitors, aged 3 to 6, have a carousel of their own. They move through short, hands-on activities including puppet making, movie reel illustrations, prop games, drama, dance and script-to-screen sessions, and they will have a go at everything. You do not need to choose anything in advance. We allocate activities when you arrive so that each family can enjoy the morning side by side.

How to book

One booking covers your whole family, so please do not book each child separately. When you register we will ask how many children are coming, their ages and how many adults will be with them. Please include babies, toddlers and older siblings in your numbers, and count yourself and any other grown-ups too. This helps us plan the activities so the morning runs smoothly for everyone.

Booking closes on Friday 2 October. Register here.
