Over 800 girls, staff, and parents congregated in Southwark Cathedral in December to celebrate the season with our annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols.

Six different choral groups – including the Prep’s Chamber Choir and two other young singing ensembles starting in Year 3 – joined our Senior musicians. Performing in a range of styles, the senior girls’ brought joy to the Cathedral as the Metrophonics, Schola Cantorum and Chamber Choir.  The girls read lessons and sang carols before the largest audience we have enjoyed at Southwark in years, with further members of our community also viewing via live stream.

The concert was led by SCHS Director of Music, Ms Polly May, who delivered it alongside our wider music faculty of Mr Matthew Gibson, Head of Academic Music, Ms Anna Tabor, Head of Music (Prep), Ella Coen, Graduate Music Fellow as well as the SCHS English Department, led by Ms Danielle Feehan.

The service raised money for Spires, a South London based charity that helps hundreds of homeless and disadvantaged people all year round.
