Cheryl Giovannoni, CEO of the GDST, introduced the Ambassador to an audience of over 100 SCHS girls along with guests from our GDST sister schools, Sutton and Wimbledon and local state partner schools Chestnut Grove and La Retraite .

Ambassador Hartley spoke about her journey to become only the second woman to hold this important office and took a range of questions from the audience about leadership, gender equality and the challenges of diplomacy at the highest level.

‘We’ve come a long way in my lifetime, in terms of how far and wide women can aim their ambition, [but] we still have a long way to go… Keep breaking down barriers so that every year, International Women’s Day is less and less about all the work we still need to do, and more and more about celebrating all the ways that women have moved the world forward.’
