Against all the odds, we managed to put together an amazing House Music Competition. The sixth-formers worked at home to put together the films and then we put them all together in the music department, despite a mass of IT challenges. Thank you to all the house music captains and all the soloists and members of the ensembles. Major thanks go to Miss Entwisle who managed to troubleshoot at every turn and get the film up and running. We were very lucky to have Louise Clare Marshall with us as our adjudicator. She is a very accomplished musician and works now as a singer and music arranger. Having trained as a classical pianist as a scholar at the Guildhall, she chose to focus on her singing and is a regular with Jools Holland and his orchestra and has sung backing vocals for musicians such as Ed Sheeran, Rag and Bone Man. Her excellent insights to the performances were very well-received and we look forward to welcoming her back next year for a vocal workshop. The winners were awarded in categories:
House Song – Carter – Man in the Mirror, RU – Franklin – I want it that way
Ensemble – Paston Brown – Blackbird, RU – Carter – Thank you for the music
Solo instrumentalist – Carter – Adrianna (piano), RU x2 – Paston Brown – Emmylou (guitar) and Knights – Maddie (piano)
Solo singer – Paston Brown – Lexi – Home, RU – Knights – Anna – Voi Che Sapete
Presentation – Franklin and Paston Brown – joint winners
Overall positivity and good vibes – Carter
Perseverance in the face of adversity – Fawcett
Congratulations to all the performers! Well done for keeping the house spirit alive until the very end!
